The Egleston Farmers Market is a great opportunity for people who care about local food, the local economy, and bringing our community together to pitch in.

We are actively recruiting volunteers for our Summer 2018 season with pre-season work beginning mid-March. Please see sample volunteer activities below and to volunteer, submit our volunteer form here and we will be in touch.

MARKET DAY VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Market day volunteers are relied upon to direct customers around the market and assist in daily operations. They get to work outside while getting to know farmers, makers and neighbors in a unique way and also contributing to a welcoming, community-based farmers’ market experience!  

 

9AM-11AM Set-Up (This shift can include heavy lifting)

  • Put up barriers to prevent traffic on Germania Street (with exception of vendors unloading prior to 9:30AM)

  • Actively monitor vehicles entering/exiting Germaina Street to ensure no unauthorized vehicles drive through load-in

  • Help set up tents, umbrellas, tables, chairs, and signs

  • Direct vendors to assigned spots as they arrive

  • Assist vendors in unloading/set-up

 

10:30AM-12:30PM Active Market (this volunteer role involves more interaction with customers and vendors than any other)

  • Move throughout the market answering questions and directing customers to vendors and activities

  • Give breaks to market vendors, take pictures, and perform the hourly customer count

  • Staff the info table, answering customer questions, selling market merchandise, and more

 

10AM-12PM or 12PM-2PM Activity Host/Coordinator

  • Design and/or host children and family activities including bubble station; chalk art; dance class; story time etc.

 

12:30PM-2:30PM Breakdown (This position can include heavy lifting)

  • Help take down canopies, umbrellas, tables, chairs, and signs.

  • Empty trash barrels (x2) and bring trash to dumpster across lot

  • Assist vendors loading vehicles as-needed

  • Direct vendors vehicles in for load-out

  • Actively monitor exits to prevent unauthorized vehicles from driving in

 

NON-SATURDAY VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES

 

  • Contribute to our weekly e-newsletter as a market writer or reporter

  • Distribute posters and flyers to your favorite cafes, shops and public places

  • Take photos at the market of volunteers, customers, and farmers

  • Write articles for community publications

  • Create printed materials such as flyers, schedules, posters and other promotional items
