Buckle Farm

The Buckle Farm is a small, diversified farm and orchard located in the rural town of Unity, Maine.

The farm originated in Massachusetts, where farmers Jim Buckle and Hannah Hamilton had lived for many years. However, both Jim and Hannah were born in Maine and when they found that their current land was for sale, they knew it was the right place to be.

The Food Project

Our mission is to create a thoughtful and productive community of youth and adults from diverse backgrounds who work together to build a sustainable food system. Our community produces healthy food for residents of the city and suburbs, provides youth leadership opportunities, and inspires and supports others to create change in their own communities.

The Neighborhood Farm

In 2008, we started planting gardens in private yards and selling the vegetables, herbs and flowers we grew.  The first year our gardens totaled less than 1/4 acre and we attended 1 local farmers' market.   Over the years we worked on rented and borrowed land, and in yards, barns, garages, and greenhouses, spread over 20 miles of Eastern Massachusetts.
