Egleston Farmers Market is seeking a Market Manager to finish the 2019 season

The Egleston Square Farmers Market is a vendor-managed, volunteer and community-led initiative to make fresh, locally-grown food accessible to residents of Jamaica Plain and Roxbury, while supporting the local economy. The market runs Saturdays, 10AM-2PM at 33 Germania Street inside the Brewery Complex.

We seek applicants who bring a positive and community-oriented attitude to this organization. The Egleston Farmers Market Coordinator will be responsible for day-of market operations during the season and will report to a vendor’s committee. The Coordinator’s general responsibilities are limited to day-of market activities and an ability to receive a weekly email with info about the upcoming market. Day of responsibilities include: managing vendor relationships, coordinating market set-up and break-down each day (including putting up and taking down 2 tents, a banner and removing trash), assisting with social media and general outreach to promote the market during market hours, answering customer questions, assisting with the market’s special events program (mainly bands and occasional children’s activities) and ensuring the site is left clean.

This position includes approximately 7 hours of work per week at a rate of $14.50/hr from 8-2:30 on Saturdays and checking email late in the week for info about the upcoming week. If a candidate was interested in developing and running children’s activities, or sending out weekly correspondence to vendors and pulling together a e-newsletter, we could include more paid hours to complete these tasks. The position would not be more than 12 hours/week.

General Requirements: The Market Manager(s) must be available during most market hours throughout the season, be willing and able to work outside in all weather conditions; and be able to safely lift and carry at least 50 pounds. An applicant could miss up to 2 markets over the course of the remainder of the season. The position requires the ability to work independently as well as inter-dependently with the team of volunteers, interns and staff members. The market coordinator will have a daily checklist to fill out and send back to the Vendor representative who will be coordinating the weekly schedules of the market vendors. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic advocate of the local food movement and Massachusetts agriculture. The Market Manager(s) must be reliable, self-motivated and have good communication and customer service skills.
